Pearl River Basin Development District
Pearl River Boatway

The Pearl River Basin Development District initiated the Pearl River Boatway in 1968.  This project called for the construction of water parks along the Pearl River and major tributaries - the Bogue Chitto, Strong and Yockanookany Rivers.   The implementation of the Pearl River Boatway was a cooperative effort between the District, member counties, local communities, the U. S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service, Land and Water Conservation Fund, and the Outdoor Recreation Grants office of the  Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries & Parks.

The Pearl River Boatway consists of nine parks totaling 981 acres stretching from Neshoba County to the Mississippi Gulf Coast.  The Pearl River Boatway parks provide public outdoor recreation activities and access to the Pearl River, Strong River, Bogue Chitto River, Magees Creek, and the Jourdan River.
